flutamide - (pronounced) (FLOO-tuh-mide) A drug used with another drug to treat certain types of prostate cancer. Flutamide attaches to proteins called androgen receptors, which are found in some prostate cancer cells. These proteins bind to androgens (male hormones) and can cause cancer cells to grow. Flutamide blocks these proteins and can stop cancer cells from growing. It's a type of antiandrogen
