Dimethandrolone

Dimethandrolone (pronunciation: di-meth-an-dro-lone), also known as 7α,11β-dimethyl-19-nortestosterone or as 7α,11β-dimethyl-estr-4-en-17β-ol-3-one, is a synthetic and orally active anabolic–androgenic steroid (AAS) and a 17α-alkylated derivative of nandrolone (19-nortestosterone).

Etymology

The term "Dimethandrolone" is derived from the words "di", meaning two, "meth", referring to the methyl groups, and "androlone", a common suffix for androgen steroids. The "7α,11β" refers to the positions of the methyl groups on the steroid structure.

Usage

Dimethandrolone is currently under development for potential use as a male contraceptive and in hormone replacement therapy for men. It is designed to have a dual action, both inhibiting the production of sperm and replacing the testosterone that is normally produced in the testes.
