RU-58841

RU-58841 (pronunciation: /ɑːr juː ˈfaɪv eɪt foʊr ˈwʌn/), also known as PSK-3841 or HMR-3841, is a non-steroidal antiandrogen which was formerly used in the treatment of acne and androgenetic alopecia (male-pattern baldness).

Etymology

The name RU-58841 is derived from the initials of the pharmaceutical company Roussel Uclaf, which first developed the drug, and the unique number 58841 that was assigned to it during its development.

Pharmacology

RU-58841 acts as a topical antiandrogen, which means it has activity only at the site of application. It inhibits the effects of androgens like testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which are hormones that play a key role in male-pattern baldness.
