Promegestone

Promegestone (pronounced pro-meh-ges-tone), also known by its brand name Surgestone, is a synthetic progestogen that is used in hormone replacement therapy and for gynecological disorders.

Etymology

The term "Promegestone" is derived from the words "progestin", referring to its progestogenic properties, and "megestone", a suffix commonly used in the naming of synthetic hormones.

Usage

Promegestone is primarily used in the treatment of menopausal symptoms and certain gynecological conditions. It is also used in hormone replacement therapy, particularly in combination with estrogens, to prevent endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer.

Pharmacology

Promegestone is a synthetic progestogen, meaning it mimics the effects of the natural hormone progesterone. It binds to and activates the progesterone receptor, exerting its effects in the body.
