Methandriol dipropionate
Methandriol dipropionate is a synthetic androgen and anabolic steroid (AAS) and a derivative of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is a prodrug of methandriol and is administered via intramuscular injection.
Etymology[edit]
The term "Methandriol" is derived from the words "methyl", "androgen", and "diol". "Methyl" refers to the presence of a methyl group in the chemical structure of the compound, "androgen" refers to its function as a male sex hormone, and "diol" refers to the presence of two alcohol groups in its structure.
Pharmacology[edit]
Methandriol dipropionate acts as a prodrug to methandriol, meaning it is metabolized in the body to produce methandriol. Methandriol is an androgen and anabolic steroid, which means it promotes the development and maintenance of male sex characteristics and promotes the growth of muscle tissue.
Medical uses[edit]
Methandriol dipropionate is used in medicine to treat conditions that require increased levels of androgens, such as hypogonadism, delayed puberty in males, and certain types of breast cancer in women.
Side effects[edit]
Potential side effects of methandriol dipropionate include virilization (development of male characteristics in women), gynecomastia (development of breast tissue in men), and liver damage. Long-term use can also lead to cardiovascular disease and prostate cancer.
