Mestanolone

Mestanolone (pronunciation: mes-tan-oh-lone), also known as 17α-methyl-DHT, is a synthetic and orally active anabolic–androgenic steroid (AAS) and a 17α-alkylated derivative of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is used in the treatment of male hypogonadism and certain types of breast cancer in women.

Etymology

The term "Mestanolone" is derived from the combination of the words "methyl", "stanol", and "one". "Methyl" is a prefix used in organic chemistry to denote the presence of a methyl group. "Stanol" is derived from "steranol", a term used to describe steroid alcohols. The suffix "one" is commonly used in chemistry to denote the presence of a carbonyl group.
