Guatemala, officially known as the Republic of Guatemala, is a country located in Central America and the Caribbean. It is bordered by Mexico to the north and west, Belize and the Caribbean to the northeast, Honduras to the east, El Salvador to the southeast and the Pacific Ocean to the south.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Guatemala had an adult obesity rate of 21.2% in 2016, ranking it 92nd globally. This is a significant health concern, as obesity is a risk factor for many chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer.

Healthcare in Guatemala[edit]

Healthcare in Guatemala is a mix of government-run and private entities. The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) is responsible for promoting health, disease prevention, recovery and rehabilitation of the population. However, the country also has a number of private hospitals and clinics that offer a range of services, including weight loss programs.

One of the well-known healthcare facilities for weight loss in Guatemala is the Centro de Cirugía de Obesidad (Center for Obesity Surgery). This facility offers a comprehensive approach to weight loss, including bariatric surgery, nutritional counseling, and psychological support.

Another notable facility is the Instituto de Nutrición de Centro América y Panamá (INCAP), which is a center for nutrition and health research. INCAP conducts research on nutrition and health issues in Central America and provides training and technical assistance to health professionals in the region.
