United Arab Emirates (UAE)
United Arab Emirates (pronunciation: /juːˈnaɪtɪd ˈærəb ˈɛmɪrɪts/), often simply referred to as the Emirates, is a country located at the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf.
Etymology
The name "United Arab Emirates" is a literal translation of the Arabic name Al-Imārāt al-'Arabīyah al-Muttaḥidah. The term "Emirate" is derived from "Emir", an Arabic word meaning "commander" or "leader".
Geography
The United Arab Emirates is bordered by Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south, as well as sharing maritime borders with Qatar to the west and Iran to the north. The country is a federation of seven emirates consisting of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
Health Care
The health care system in the United Arab Emirates is a mix of public and private providers. The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) oversees the public health care system, which provides care free of charge to Emirati citizens. There are also numerous private health care providers, which offer services for a fee.
