Czech Republic (pronunciation: /ˈtʃɛk - rɪˈpʌblɪk/), also known as Czechia (pronunciation: /ˈtʃɛkiə/), is a landlocked country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the east, and Poland to the northeast. The Czech Republic has a hilly landscape that covers an area of 78,866 square kilometers with a mostly temperate continental climate and oceanic climate.
Etymology
The name "Czech" comes from the Slavic tribe of Czechs that settled in Central Europe during the 6th or 7th century AD. The term "Czech Republic" refers to the form of government adopted by the country after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993.
Healthcare in the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic has a universal healthcare system, based on a compulsory insurance model, with fee-for-service care funded by mandatory employment-related insurance plans. The Ministry of Health is responsible for the overall health policy.
