Lesotho (pronounced: luh-SOO-too) is a country in Southern Africa. It is an enclaved country, completely surrounded by its only neighbouring country, South Africa.
Etymology
The name Lesotho translates roughly into "the land of the people who speak Sesotho". The word is of Bantu origin.
Geography
Lesotho is the only independent state in the world that is entirely above 1,000 metres (3,281 ft) in elevation. Its lowest point of 1,400 metres (4,593 ft) is thus the highest in the world. Over 80% of the country is 1,800 metres (5,906 ft) above sea level.
Health
Healthcare in Lesotho is administered by the Ministry of Health. The country has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in the world, with approximately a quarter of the adult population infected. Lesotho also has a high incidence of tuberculosis.
