Maldives

Maldives (pronunciation: /ˈmɔːldiːvs/), officially known as the Republic of Maldives, is a small island nation in South Asia, located in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean.

Etymology

The name "Maldives" may derive from maale dhivehi raajje which translates to "The Island Kingdom (under the authority of) Male". Another theory suggests that it may come from the Sanskrit mālādvīpa, meaning "garland of islands".

Geography

The Maldives is made up of 26 atolls, which are made up of more than 1,000 coral islands. It's known for its beaches, blue lagoons and extensive reefs. The capital, Malé, has a busy fish market, restaurants and shops on Majeedhee Magu and 17th-century Hukuru Miskiy (also known as Old Friday Mosque) made of coral stone.

Health Care

Healthcare in the Maldives is managed by the Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health), with publicly funded services provided through a network of hospitals, health centres and family health units. The Maldives has made significant progress in improving health outcomes, with a focus on reducing maternal and child mortality rates.
