Nauru (nɑːˈuːruː)
Nauru, officially known as the Republic of Nauru and formerly known as Pleasant Island, is an island country in Micronesia, a subregion of Oceania, in the Central Pacific.
Etymology
The origin of the word 'Nauru' is not clearly known. However, it is believed to have been derived from the Nauruan word 'Anáoero', which means 'I go to the beach'.
