Mongolia (mɒŋˈɡoʊliə)

Mongolia (pronounced: mɒŋˈɡoʊliə) is a landlocked country in East and Central Asia. It is bordered by Russia to the north and China to the south, east and west. Ulaanbaatar, the capital and largest city, is home to about 45% of the population.

Etymology

The name "Mongolia" means "Land of the Mongols" in Latin. The local name of the country, "Mongol Bichig", is not used in the English language. The term "Mongol" describes a series of tribal groups who originated from the Central Asian steppes.
