Gabon

Gabon (pronounced /ɡəˈbɒn/), officially the Gabonese Republic (French: République gabonaise), is a country located on the west coast of Central Africa.

Etymology

The name "Gabon" comes from the Portuguese word "gabão", a coat with sleeve and hood resembling the shape of the Komo River estuary. The Portuguese explorers named the river "Gabão" and this later applied to the country.

Geography

Gabon is bordered by Equatorial Guinea to the northwest, Cameroon to the north, the Republic of Congo on the east and south, and the Gulf of Guinea to the west. It has significant areas of protected parkland, which attract tourists interested in wildlife.

Health in Gabon

Healthcare in Gabon is generally of a high standard. The country has a number of modern hospitals and clinics, and there is a comprehensive healthcare system in place. However, there are still challenges, particularly in rural areas where access to healthcare can be limited.

Diseases

Gabon has a high prevalence of diseases such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis. The government has implemented various programs to combat these diseases, with varying degrees of success.
