Croatia (krō-ā′shə)

Croatia (pronounced as /krō-ā′shə/), officially known as the Republic of Croatia, is a country located in Central Europe and the Mediterranean. The etymology of the name "Croatia" derives from Medieval Latin Croātia, itself a derivation of the native ethnonym of Croats.

History

Croatia has a rich history dating back to the Prehistoric times. The area known as modern-day Croatia was inhabited during the Neolithic period. It was part of the Roman Empire before it evolved into the kingdoms of Croatia and Slavonia.

Geography

Croatia is located in the southeastern part of Europe, bordering the Adriatic Sea. It is bordered by Slovenia and Hungary to the north, Serbia to the east, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to the southeast, and shares a maritime border with Italy.
