Iran (pronunciation: /ɪˈrɑːn/, etymology: from Middle Persian Ērān, meaning "Land of the Aryans")

Iran, also known as Persia, is a country in Western Asia. It is the world's 18th most populous country, with over 83 million inhabitants, and has the second-largest land area in the Middle East.

History

The history of Iran is intertwined with the history of a larger region, also to an extent known as Greater Iran, comprising the area from Anatolia, the Bosphorus, and Egypt in the west to the borders of Ancient India and the Syr Darya in the east, and from the Caucasus and the Eurasian Steppe in the north to the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman in the south.

Geography

Iran is located in the Middle East, bordering the Caspian Sea, between Iraq and Pakistan. It has a mixed terrain that includes a range of mountains, deserts, and fertile plains.

Health and Medicine

Iran has a comprehensive and effective program of public health. In the 20th and 21st centuries, Iran made significant advances in the medical field, and it is now leading in stem cell research and surgical procedures.

Traditional Medicine

Traditional medicine in Iran is based on the teachings of Hippocrates, Galen, and Avicenna. It still plays a crucial role in the maintenance of public health.
