Morocco (məˈrɒkoʊ)

Morocco (pronounced məˈrɒkoʊ), officially known as the Kingdom of Morocco, is a country located in the Maghreb region of North Africa. It is one of the native homelands of the indigenous Berber people.

Etymology

The name "Morocco" originates from the Spanish name for the city of Marrakesh, "Marruecos". Marrakesh was the capital of the Almoravid dynasty and Almohad Caliphate, which controlled a region stretching from the Iberian Peninsula to parts of Sub-Saharan Africa.
