Western Sahara (IPA: /ˈwɛstərn səˈhɑːrə/)
Western Sahara (IPA: /ˈwɛstərn səˈhɑːrə/) is a disputed territory in the Maghreb region of North Africa, bordered by Morocco to the north, Algeria to the northeast, Mauritania to the east and south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Its surface area amounts to 266,000 square kilometers. It is one of the most sparsely populated territories in the world, mainly consisting of desert flatlands.
Etymology
The term "Western Sahara" is a descriptive term referring to the western part of the Sahara Desert region. The term "Sahara" is derived from the Arabic word "ṣaḥrāʼ" (صحراء), which translates to "desert".
Health in Western Sahara
Healthcare in Western Sahara is limited due to the ongoing conflict and displacement of people. The Polisario Front, the organization claiming the sovereignty of Western Sahara, operates hospitals and healthcare centers in the refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria.
