Tunisia, a country located in North Africa, had an adult obesity rate of 26.9% in 2016, ranking it 40th globally. This rate is a significant health concern for the country, as obesity is linked to a variety of serious health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.

Obesity in Tunisia[edit]

The obesity rate in Tunisia has been steadily increasing over the years. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that in 2016, 26.9% of adults in Tunisia were classified as obese. This places Tunisia at the 40th position in the global ranking of countries by adult obesity rate.

Health Risks[edit]

Obesity is associated with numerous health risks. In Tunisia, as in many other countries, obesity is a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. These diseases are leading causes of death and disability in the country.

Weight Loss Facilities[edit]

In response to the growing obesity problem, several healthcare facilities in Tunisia have developed programs to help individuals lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. These include:

  • Slimming Center Tunisia: This center offers a comprehensive weight loss program that includes diet, exercise, and behavioral therapy.
  • Tunis Obesity Surgery Clinic: This clinic specializes in bariatric surgery, a type of surgery that is often used to treat obesity.
  • Tunisian Center for Nutrition: This center provides nutritional counseling and education to help individuals make healthier food choices.
