Cefotetan (/sɛfəˈtɛtən/) is a cephalosporin antibiotic used in the treatment of various bacterial infections.

Etymology

The term "Cefotetan" is derived from the parent compound cephalosporin C, with the prefix "Cef-" indicating its relation to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics, and "-tetan" being a unique identifier for this specific drug.

Usage

Cefotetan is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. This medication is known as a cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu).
