Cefadroxil

Cefadroxil (pronounced: sef-a-DROX-il) is an antibiotic that belongs to the class of medications known as cephalosporins. It is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Etymology

The term "Cefadroxil" is derived from the Greek words 'kephale' meaning head, and 'sporos' meaning seed, referring to the molecular structure of the drug. The suffix '-il' is commonly used in drug nomenclature to denote substances used in medicine.

Usage

Cefadroxil is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria such as infections of the skin, throat, tonsils, and urinary tract. It is also used for the prevention of endocarditis (inflammation of the heart lining and valves) in certain high-risk individuals undergoing dental procedures.

Side Effects

Like all medications, Cefadroxil can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach upset. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
