McDonald's (pronunciation: /məkˈdɒnəldz/) is a fast food company, founded in the United States in 1940. It is one of the largest and most well-known fast food chains in the world, with over 38,000 locations in more than 100 countries.
Etymology
The name "McDonald's" is derived from the surname of the founders, Richard and Maurice McDonald. The "'s" at the end is a possessive suffix, indicating that the restaurants originally belonged to the McDonald brothers.
