Taco Bell is an American-based chain of fast food restaurants originating in Irvine, California. The company was founded by Glen Bell on March 21, 1962. Taco Bell is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc.

Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell, who first opened a hot dog stand called Bell's Drive-In in San Bernardino, California in 1948. In 1951, he opened a second stand, Bell's Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, in the same city. Bell noticed the popularity of a nearby Mexican restaurant and decided to open a similar restaurant, which he named Taco-Tia. After several iterations and partnerships, Bell opened the first Taco Bell in Downey, California, in 1962.
