Merrill

Merrill is a city in Lincoln County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located to the south of the Wisconsin River. The city is also known as the "City of Parks" due to its numerous parks and natural areas. Merrill is named after Sherman Merrill, a lumberman who settled in the area in the 19th century.

History

Merrill was first settled in the mid-19th century by lumbermen and sawmill operators. The city was originally named Jenny Bull Falls, after the wife of one of the first settlers. In 1881, the city was renamed Merrill, in honor of Sherman Merrill, a prominent lumberman and the owner of the Merrill Lumber Company.

Merrill is located in the northern part of Wisconsin, along the Wisconsin River. The city is surrounded by forests and farmland, and is known for its scenic beauty. The city's location along the river has played a significant role in its development and history.
