Iowa County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,529. Its county seat and largest city is Dodgeville.
History[edit]
Iowa County was created in 1829 as part of the Michigan Territory. It was named after the Iowa people, a Native American tribe. The county was originally much larger, encompassing much of what is now southwestern Wisconsin. Over time, the county was reduced to its current size as new counties were created.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 768 square miles (1,990 km²), of which 763 square miles (1,980 km²) is land and 5.3 square miles (14 km²) (0.7%) is water.

Demographics[edit]
As of the 2020 census, there were 24,529 people, 10,000 households, and 6,500 families residing in the county. The population density was 32 people per square mile (12/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 96.5% White, 0.5% Black or African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.6% Asian, and 2.0% from two or more races. 1.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
