La Crosse County is a county located in the state of Wisconsin, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 120,784. The county seat is La Crosse, which is also the largest city in the county. The county was created in 1851 and is named after the La Crosse River.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 480 square miles (1,243 km²), of which 452 square miles (1,171 km²) is land and 28 square miles (72 km²) (5.8%) is water. The county is part of the Driftless Area, a region that was not glaciated during the last ice age.

The racial makeup of the county was 89.5% White, 2.7% Black or African American, 0.5% Native American, 3.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.6% from two or more races. 3.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
