Buffalo County is a county located in the western part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 13,317. Its county seat is Alma. The county was created in 1853 and named for the Buffalo River.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 710 square miles (1,800 km²), of which 672 square miles (1,740 km²) is land and 38 square miles (98 km²) (5.3%) is water. The county is part of the Driftless Area, a region that was not glaciated during the last ice age.

The racial makeup of the county was 97.5% White, 0.3% Black or African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.3% Asian, and 1.5% from two or more races. 1.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
