Forest County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,990. Its county seat is Crandon. The county was created in 1885 and named for the dense forests that cover the area.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,046 square miles (2,710 km²), of which 1,014 square miles (2,630 km²) is land and 32 square miles (83 km²) (3.1%) is water. The county is known for its numerous lakes, rivers, and forests, which are part of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

As of the 2020 census, there were 8,990 people, 3,900 households, and 2,500 families residing in the county. The population density was 8.9 people per square mile (3.4/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with significant populations of Native Americans.

The economy of Forest County is largely based on forestry, tourism, and recreation. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest provides numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and camping. Additionally, the county has a number of lumber and paper mills.
