Pepin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,469, making it the fourth-least populous county in Wisconsin. Its county seat is Durand. The county was created in 1858 and named after the French explorer Jean Pepin du Cardonnets.
History
Pepin County was established in 1858 from portions of Dunn County. The county is named after Jean Pepin du Cardonnets, a French explorer who was one of the first Europeans to explore the area.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 249 square miles (640 km²), of which 232 square miles (600 km²) is land and 17 square miles (44 km²) (6.8%) is water. The county is characterized by its rolling hills, river valleys, and rich agricultural land.
