List of Counties in Connecticut is a comprehensive guide to the eight counties that make up the state of Connecticut. These counties serve as the local level of government within the state.
Overview[edit]
Connecticut is divided into eight counties. However, unlike in most other states, in Connecticut county government has been abolished since 1960, and so the counties only exist for geographical purposes. The counties are, in alphabetical order: Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland, and Windham.

Fairfield County[edit]
Fairfield County is located in the southwestern corner of Connecticut. It is the most populous county in the state, and its county seat is Bridgeport.
Hartford County[edit]
Hartford County is located in the north-central part of the state. It is the second-most populous county in Connecticut, and its county seat is Hartford, which is also the state capital.
Litchfield County[edit]
Litchfield County is located in the northwestern part of Connecticut. It is the largest county in the state by area, and its county seat is Litchfield.
Middlesex County[edit]
Middlesex County is located in the south-central part of Connecticut. Its county seat is Middletown.
New Haven County[edit]
New Haven County is located in the south-central part of the state. It is the third-most populous county in Connecticut, and its county seat is New Haven.
New London County[edit]
New London County is located in the southeastern part of Connecticut. Its county seat is New London.
Tolland County[edit]
Tolland County is located in the northeastern part of Connecticut. Its county seat is Tolland.
Windham County[edit]
Windham County is located in the northeastern part of the state. Its county seat is Windham.
