Sheboygan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 118,034. The county seat is Sheboygan. The county was created in 1836 and organized in 1846.

History

Sheboygan County was established in 1836 and organized in 1846. The name "Sheboygan" is derived from the Ojibwe language, meaning "waterway between the lakes." The area was originally inhabited by the Potawatomi and Menominee tribes before European settlers arrived.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,271 square miles (3,290 km²), of which 511 square miles (1,320 km²) is land and 760 square miles (2,000 km²) (59.8%) is water. The county is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan.
