Warren County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,127. The county seat is Front Royal. The county was established in 1836 and is named after Joseph Warren, a physician and general in the American Revolutionary War.
History
Warren County was formed in 1836 from parts of Frederick and Shenandoah counties. The county is named after Joseph Warren, a hero of the American Revolutionary War who died at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 219 square miles (570 km²), of which 213 square miles (550 km²) is land and 6 square miles (16 km²) (2.6%) is water. The county is located in the northern part of the state and is part of the Shenandoah Valley region.

Demographics
As of the 2020 census, there were 40,127 people, 14,987 households, and 10,566 families residing in the county. The population density was 188 people per square mile (73/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 89.1% White, 5.1% Black or African American, 0.4% Native American, 1.0% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 1.8% from other races, and 2.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.8% of the population.
Economy
The economy of Warren County is diverse, with sectors including manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and education. The county is also known for its tourism industry, particularly due to its proximity to the Shenandoah National Park and the Appalachian Trail.

Warren County is served by the Warren County Public Schools system, which includes several elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. The county is also home to Christendom College, a private Catholic liberal arts college.
Transportation
Major highways in Warren County include Interstate 66, U.S. Route 340, and U.S. Route 522. The county is also served by the Front Royal-Warren County Airport.
