Henrico County, Virginia is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 334,389, making it the fifth-most populous county in Virginia. The county seat is Richmond, which is also the capital of the state.
History[edit]
Henrico County is one of the oldest counties in the United States, having been established in 1634 as one of the original eight shires of Virginia. The county was named for Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales, the eldest son of King James I.
During the American Civil War, Henrico County was the site of several significant battles, including the Battle of Seven Pines and the Battle of Cold Harbor. The county's proximity to Richmond made it a strategic location for both Union and Confederate forces.
Geography[edit]
Henrico County is located in the central part of Virginia, encompassing an area of approximately 245 square miles. The county is bordered by the James River to the south and the Chickahominy River to the north.
