Bath County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,310. Its county seat is Warm Springs. The county is named for the English resort city of Bath.
History
Bath County was established in 1790 from parts of Augusta, Botetourt, and Greenbrier counties. The county was named for the English city of Bath, known for its Roman baths.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 535 square miles (1,386 km²), of which 529 square miles (1,370 km²) is land and 6 square miles (16 km²) (1.1%) is water. The county is part of the Allegheny Mountains and is known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities.
Demographics
As of the 2020 census, there were 4,310 people, 1,900 households, and 1,200 families residing in the county. The population density was 8 people per square mile (3/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with small percentages of African American, Native American, and other races.
Economy
The economy of Bath County is largely based on tourism, agriculture, and forestry. The county is home to the famous Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, which attracts visitors from around the world.
Education
Bath County is served by the Bath County Public Schools system, which includes Bath County High School, Millboro Elementary School, and Valley Elementary School.
