Notable Historic Houses[edit]
- Mount Vernon: The plantation home of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Located near Alexandria, Virginia, Mount Vernon is a prime example of 18th-century Georgian architecture.
- Monticello: The primary plantation of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States and the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. Monticello is located near Charlottesville, Virginia and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

- Tuckahoe Plantation: The boyhood home of Thomas Jefferson, located in Goochland County, Virginia. Tuckahoe is an example of early American colonial architecture.
- Woodlawn Plantation: Built by George Washington for his nephew, Major Lawrence Lewis, and his wife, Eleanor "Nelly" Custis Lewis, who was Martha Washington's granddaughter. Located in Fairfax County, Virginia.
- Agecroft Hall: A Tudor-style mansion originally built in England in the late 15th century and later transported to Richmond, Virginia in the 20th century.
- Bacon's Castle: The oldest brick dwelling in Virginia, located in Surry County, Virginia. It is an example of Jacobean architecture and was the site of Bacon's Rebellion in 1676.
