Nottoway County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,001. Its county seat is Nottoway. The county was established in 1789 from parts of Amelia County.

History

Nottoway County was formed in 1789 from Amelia County. It was named for the Nottoway people, a Native American tribe that lived in the area. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Civil War.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 316 square miles (820 km²), of which 314 square miles (810 km²) is land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²) (0.7%) is water.
