Smyth County is a county located in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was approximately 29,000. The county seat is Marion.
History
Smyth County was formed in 1832 from parts of Washington and Wythe counties. It was named after General Alexander Smyth, a distinguished military figure and political leader.
Geography
Smyth County is situated in the southwestern part of Virginia. According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 452 square miles, of which 451 square miles is land and 1.3 square miles (0.3%) is water.

Demographics
