Craig County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,916. Its county seat is New Castle.
History
Craig County was established in 1851 from parts of Botetourt, Roanoke, Giles, and Monroe counties. It was named for Robert Craig, a 19th-century Virginia congressman.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 331 square miles (857 km²), of which 330 square miles (855 km²) is land and 1.0 square mile (2.6 km²) (0.3%) is water.

Demographics
As of the census of 2020, there were 4,916 people, 2,091 households, and 1,451 families residing in the county. The population density was 15 people per square mile (6/km²). There were 2,591 housing units at an average density of 8 per square mile (3/km²).
Government and infrastructure
The county is governed by a Board of Supervisors, which is elected by the residents. The county seat, New Castle, houses the main government offices.

Craig County is served by the Craig County Public Schools system, which includes an elementary school and a combined middle/high school.
