Brunswick County is a county located in the southern part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,549. The county seat is Lawrenceville. The county was established in 1720 from parts of Prince George County and Isle of Wight County.
History
Brunswick County was named for the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg, which was the ancestral home of King George I of Great Britain. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Civil War and its agricultural heritage, particularly in the production of Brunswick stew.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 569 square miles (1,470 km²), of which 566 square miles (1,470 km²) is land and 3.2 square miles (8.3 km²) (0.6%) is water. The county is part of the Piedmont region of Virginia.

Demographics
As of the 2020 census, there were 15,549 people, 6,000 households, and 4,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 27 people per square mile (10/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 56.5% White, 41.2% African American, and 2.3% from other races.
Economy
The economy of Brunswick County is primarily based on agriculture, manufacturing, and services. The county is known for its production of tobacco, soybeans, and corn. Additionally, the county has several manufacturing facilities and a growing service sector.
Education
Brunswick County is served by Brunswick County Public Schools, which includes several elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. The county is also home to Saint Paul's College, a historically black college located in Lawrenceville.
