Accomack County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 33,164. The county seat is Accomac.
History[edit]
Accomack County was established in 1663. The name "Accomack" comes from the Accawmacke tribe, a Native American tribe that lived in the area. The county has a rich history, including its role in the early colonial period and its involvement in the American Civil War.
Geography[edit]
Accomack County is situated on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, a peninsula bordered by the Chesapeake Bay to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The county has a total area of 1,310 square miles, of which 450 square miles is land and 860 square miles (65.6%) is water.

Economy[edit]
The economy of Accomack County is largely based on agriculture, aquaculture, and tourism. The county is known for its seafood, particularly blue crabs and oysters. Tourism is also significant, with attractions such as Chincoteague Island and the Assateague Island National Seashore.
Education[edit]
Accomack County is served by Accomack County Public Schools, which includes several elementary, middle, and high schools. The county is also home to the Eastern Shore Community College.

Major highways in Accomack County include U.S. Route 13, which runs north-south through the county. The county is also served by the Accomack County Airport.
