King William County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 17,210. Its county seat is King William.
History[edit]
King William County was established in 1702 from King and Queen County. It was named for King William III of England. The county is known for its rich history and significant contributions to the early development of Virginia.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 286 square miles (740 km²), of which 274 square miles (710 km²) is land and 12 square miles (31 km²) (4.2%) is water. The county is bordered by the Mattaponi River to the north and the Pamunkey River to the south.
Demographics[edit]
As of the 2020 census, there were 17,210 people, 6,500 households, and 4,800 families residing in the county. The population density was 63 people per square mile (24/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with significant African American and smaller Native American populations.
Government and Politics[edit]
King William County is governed by a Board of Supervisors, which consists of representatives from each of the county's five districts. The county also has a County Administrator who oversees the daily operations of the county government.

The county is served by the King William County Public Schools system, which includes several elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. The county also has access to higher education institutions in nearby cities.
