Overton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,083. Its county seat is Livingston. Overton County is part of the Cookeville, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Overton County was established in 1806 from a portion of Jackson County. It was named for John Overton, a prominent judge and political leader in Tennessee. The county has a rich history that includes its role in the American Civil War, where it was a site of several skirmishes and military activities.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 435 square miles (1,130 km²), of which 433 square miles (1,120 km²) is land and 2.0 square miles (5.2 km²) (0.5%) is water. The county is located in the northern part of the state and is characterized by its rolling hills and fertile valleys.
