Carroll County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was approximately 28,000. Its county seat is Huntingdon, and its largest city is McKenzie. The county was established on November 7, 1821, and named in honor of William Carroll, the Governor of Tennessee at the time.
History
Carroll County was created by an act of the Tennessee General Assembly on November 7, 1821. The county was named after William Carroll, who served as the Governor of Tennessee. The area was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Chickasaw.
Geography
Carroll County covers a total area of approximately 600 square miles, of which 599 square miles is land and 1.2 square miles is water. The county is part of the Jackson Purchase and is characterized by its rolling hills and fertile plains.
