Humphreys County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,590. Its county seat is Waverly. The county was named for Parry Wayne Humphreys, an early settler and state legislator.
History
Humphreys County was established in 1809. It was named in honor of Parry Wayne Humphreys, who was a judge and a member of the Tennessee General Assembly. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Civil War.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 557 square miles (1,440 km²), of which 531 square miles (1,380 km²) is land and 26 square miles (67 km²) (4.7%) is water. The county is located in the western part of the state and is part of the Nashville metropolitan area.

The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with small percentages of African American, Native American, Asian, and other races.
