Claiborne County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 32,206. Its county seat is Tazewell. The county was established on October 29, 1801, and named for William C. C. Claiborne, one of the first judges of the Tennessee Supreme Court and later Governor of Louisiana.
History
Claiborne County was established in 1801 from parts of Grainger and Hawkins counties. The county is named after William C. C. Claiborne, who was a prominent political figure in the early 19th century.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 442 square miles (1,140 km²), of which 435 square miles (1,130 km²) is land and 7.0 square miles (18 km²) (1.6%) is water.

As of the 2020 census, there were 32,206 people, 13,000 households, and 8,500 families residing in the county. The population density was 74 people per square mile (29/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.5% White, 0.8% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.0% of the population.
