Hickman County, Tennessee
Hickman County, Tennessee is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 24,925. The county seat is Centerville. Hickman County is part of the Nashville metropolitan area.
History
Hickman County was established in 1807 from parts of Dickson County. It was named for Edwin Hickman, a pioneer settler and explorer who was killed by Native Americans in 1791. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Civil War.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 613 square miles (1,590 km²), of which 612 square miles (1,590 km²) is land and 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²) (0.1%) is water. The county is characterized by its rolling hills and valleys, part of the Highland Rim.

Demographics
As of the 2020 census, there were 24,925 people, 9,711 households, and 6,876 families residing in the county. The population density was 41 people per square mile (16/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with small percentages of African American, Native American, and other races.
Economy
The economy of Hickman County is diverse, with agriculture, manufacturing, and services being the primary sectors. The county is known for its livestock and crop farming, as well as small-scale manufacturing industries.
Education
Hickman County is served by the Hickman County School District, which includes several elementary schools, middle schools, and Hickman County High School. The county also has access to higher education institutions in nearby counties, including Columbia State Community College.
