Crockett County is a county located in the western part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,586. Its county seat is Alamo. The county was formed in 1871 and named after Davy Crockett, a 19th-century American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier, and politician.
History
Crockett County was established in 1871 from parts of Dyer, Gibson, Haywood, and Madison counties. The county was named in honor of Davy Crockett, who was a native of Tennessee and a celebrated figure in American history, known for his role in the Texas Revolution and his death at the Battle of the Alamo.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 266 square miles (690 km²), of which 266 square miles (690 km²) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km²) (0.08%) is water. The county is part of the Jackson, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Demographics
As of the 2020 census, there were 14,586 people, 5,800 households, and 4,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 55 people per square mile (21/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 75% White, 20% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 2% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4% of the population.
Economy
The economy of Crockett County is primarily based on agriculture, with soybeans, corn, and cotton being the main crops. The county also has a number of small manufacturing businesses and retail establishments. The county's location within the Jackson Metropolitan Area provides residents with access to a larger job market and economic opportunities.
Education
Crockett County is served by the Crockett County School District, which operates several elementary schools, a middle school, and Crockett County High School. The county is also home to the Crockett County Higher Education Center, which offers post-secondary education opportunities in partnership with area colleges and universities.

Crockett County is governed by a county mayor and a county commission. The county commission is made up of representatives from the county's districts. The county government is responsible for providing services such as law enforcement, road maintenance, and public health.
