Clay County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,515. Its county seat and largest city is Celina. The county was established in 1870 and named in honor of Henry Clay, a prominent American statesman and Secretary of State.
History[edit]
Clay County was formed from parts of Jackson and Overton counties in 1870. The county is named after Henry Clay, a notable American statesman known for his efforts in the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850.
Geography[edit]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 259 square miles (670 km²), of which 237 square miles (610 km²) is land and 22 square miles (57 km²) (8.5%) is water. The county is located in the northern part of Tennessee and is bordered by Kentucky to the north.

As of the 2020 census, there were 7,515 people, 3,200 households, and 2,100 families residing in the county. The population density was 31.7 people per square mile (12.2/km²). The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with small percentages of other races.
