Renal System

The Renal System (pronounced: /ˈriːnəl ˈsɪstəm/), also known as the Urinary System or the Urogenital System, is a group of organs in the body that are responsible for the production, storage, and elimination of urine. It includes two kidneys, two ureters, the bladder, and the urethra.

Etymology

The term "renal" comes from the Latin word renes, meaning kidneys. The term "urinary" comes from the Latin word urina, which means urine.

Function

The primary function of the Renal System is to filter waste products and excess substances from the blood, which are then excreted as urine. This process helps to regulate the body's chemical balance, maintain blood pressure, and remove toxins from the body.

Components

Kidneys

The Kidneys (pronounced: /ˈkɪdniːz/) are a pair of bean-shaped organs located at the back of the abdominal cavity. They are responsible for filtering the blood and removing waste products and excess substances, which are then converted into urine.

Ureters

The Ureters (pronounced: /jʊˈriːtərz/) are two tubes that transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder.

Bladder

The Bladder (pronounced: /ˈblædər/) is a hollow organ that stores urine until it is ready to be excreted from the body.

Urethra

The Urethra (pronounced: /jʊˈriːθrə/) is a tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body.
