This training involves a 12-month stint in general surgery, 36 months in clinical urology, and the remaining 12 months in general surgery, urology, or other clinical disciplines relevant to urology. Some urologists elect to further specialize by pursuing fellowships in sub-disciplines, which can last from 12 to 36 months.
